K.E.T. - First Exam

Dear students,

Here you will find the files you'll need to prepare the Cambridge English exams. You have to follow the instructions and, please, respect the rules and the times I tell you, take it seriously!

Remember this task isn't compulsory but advisable.

  • Starting day: 04/05/2015
  • Deadline: 11/05/2015

The only thing you have to hand in is the answer sheet from each paper, nothing else, please!
So you have to bring your answer sheets by the 11th May.

Format - K.E.T. exam has three papers:


  • Reading and Writing - 1 hour 10 minutes
Shows you can understand simple written information such as signs, brochures, newspapers and magazines.

  • Listening - 30 minutes  
Require you to be able to understand announcements and other spoken material when people speak reasonably slowly.

  • Speaking - up to 10 minutes

Tests your ability to take part in a conversation by answering and asking simple questions. Your speaking test will be conducted face-to-face with one or two other candidates. This makes your test more realistic and more reliable.

In order to get access towards the sample papers:

First of all press over the link to the part you want to download. Secondly, press over the button which is called "Descargar", then,  when the pop-up message that says "Crea una cuenta de Dropbox..." appears, go down and press over the message "No, gracias, continuar con descarga", or, if the pop-up message you get is "¿Eres nuevo en Dropbox...", just close this pop-up. After that, the file will appear.

After that, the file you were looking for will appear. Donwload every single part from the three papers and, then, start doing the exams. Respect the rules and the times for each part.



1st Exam:


Reading and Writing: 

  • Part 1 - ¿Qué cartel de la A a la H dice los mensajes 1 al 5? Marca las letras correctas en tu hoja de respuestas.
  • Part 2 - Lee las oraciones sobre trabajar en una biblioteca. Escoge la palabra que sea la mejor opción (A, B o C) por cada hueco.
  • Part 3 - Completa las cinco conversaciones. Por cada una de las conversaciones elige las opciones A, B ó C que sean más adecuadas al contexto de la conversación. 
  • Part 4 - Lee el artículo sobre dos chicos canadienses. ¿Son las oraciones 21 a la 27 "correctas" (A), "erróneas" (B)? O, si no hay información suficiente en el texto sobre lo que se dice, si no es ni (A) ni (B), la opción adecuada será "no se dice", para ello elige la opción (C).
  • Part 5 - Lee el artículo sobre los loros. Escoge la palabra más correcta (A, B ó C) para cada espacio.
  • Part 6 - Lee las descripciones de algunas cosas que necesitas para disfrutar de distintas actividades o intereses. Se ofrece la primera letra de cada palabra. Completa las palabras teniendo en cuenta que hay un espacio por cada letra de dicha palabra.
  • Part 7 - Completa el mail de Greg a su amiga Anna. Escribe una palabra por cada espacio.
  • Part 8 - Lee el anuncio y la nota sobre el teatro. Completa la información sobre las notas de Sarika. Para las preguntas 51-55, escribe la información en la hoja de respuestas.
  • Part 9 - Lee este mail de tu amigo Mike. Escribe un mail a Mike y responde a sus preguntas. Escribe de 25 a 35 palabras. Escribe tu mail en la hoja de respuestas.

Tips:

  • Take a few minutes to read and check every single part of this paper.
  • Read the instructions carefully before you start evey single part.
  • Organice your time and divide it among the parts you have to fulfill.
  • Don't spend too much time doing one part. If you don't know how to do it, continue with the exam and come back later on, if you have enough time, to retry it.
  • Remember to transfer you answers to your answer sheet on time and don't mix the asnwers.


Listening:

  • Part 1 - Vas a oír cinco conversaciones cortas. Oirás cada conversación dos veces. Hay una pregunta por cada una de las conversaciones. Para las preguntas 1 a la 5 tendrás que poner un tick debajo de cada respuesta correcta de las tres que se ofrecen. Sólo una es la correcta.
  • Part 2 - Escucha a Lena hablando con un amigo sobre restaurantes. ¿Qué problema tiene cada uno de de los restaurantes? Para las preguntas 6 a la 10, escribe una letra de la A a la H para cada uno de los restaurantes. (¡Ojo! Existen más problemas que restaurantes).
  • Part 3 - Escucha a Helen hablando con su amigo Sam sobre estar en una banda de rock. Para las cuestiones 11 a 15 pon un tick en la opción correcta, A, B ó C.
  • Part 4 - Vas a oír a un hombre hablando por teléfono sobre una fiesta. Escucha y completa las preguntas 16 a la 20. Oirás la conversación dos veces.
  • Part 5 - Oirás información sobre un lugar llamado "Sea World". Escucha y completa las cuestiones 21 a la 25. Oirás la información dos veces.
  • End up this paper - Now you have eight minutes to write your answers on the answer sheet.


Speaking:

You are going to continue practicing with Fergus for the Cambridge Exams. He is going to work with you in the same way you will be expected to do on the day of the exam.


Part 1: Talking and giving personal information. You will be ask to answer questions about your personal life. This is an individual task. These are the questions you will find in the video.

  • What's your name?
  • What's your surname? How do you spell it/that?
  • Where do you come from? 
  • Do you study English at school? What other subjects do you study?
  • What subjects do you like best? Why?
  • What do you like about your school? Why?
  • What do you usually do in the evenings?
  • What time do you usually go to bed?
  • How much homework do you usually do?
  • What sports do you like doing? Why?
  • What other things you do in your free time?
  • How often do you "make a chocolate cake"?
  • Tell me something about a TV programme you like.
  • Tell me something about what you do at the weekend.

Part 2: The students will talk to each other on this part. They have to ask and answer questions using images. Here you can find the images from the video.

Image A:

"Student A... here is some information about a computer game".
"Student B... you don't know anything about the computer game, so ask Student A some questions about it and use the words on the right side of the image A to help you".














Image B:

"Student B... here is some information about a teenage magazine".
"Student A... you don't know anything about the teenage magazine, so ask Student B some questions about it and use the words on the right side of the image B to help you".
